A new gravel driveway is more than a path with stone on it. The route, the subgrade, the base, the crown, and the drainage all have to be right — or the gravel won't stay put. We build each layer in order.
Where the driveway goes matters as much as what it's made of. We plan the route for grade, drainage, turns, and how you'll actually use it — then build to that plan.
Before any stone goes down, the path gets cleared and the subgrade gets cut. Organic soil and roots come out so the driveway sits on stable material that won't sink or pump mud through the gravel.
The base is the layer that actually carries the load. We place a larger angular stone, compact it in lifts, and build a firm foundation before the surface stone ever goes down.
Water is what destroys gravel driveways. We crown the surface so rain sheds to the sides instead of running down the middle — and build in the ditching and crossings that carry it away.
Where the driveway crosses a ditch or low spot, water needs a pipe underneath. We install culverts at every crossing so the drive stays dry and the drainage keeps flowing.
Only once the base is right do we lay the surface stone — matched to your driveway's use, traffic, and look. The right aggregate, at the right depth, compacted into a firm, finished surface.
